Iranian spy-thriller draws high praise

Javad Afshar’s latest blockbuster series ‘Gando’ receives extraordinary praise by Iranian audiences and critics alike.

“The well-made and content-rich series ‘Gando’ was artistically written, artistically produced, and had an artistic ending which ingrained a valuable highlight in Javad Afshar and his crew’s resumes,” said one critic.

The award-winning director’s spy-thriller is based on real-life espionage cases the Iranian intelligence community deals with on a regular basis.

According to many critics, part of the high ratings received by the series’ director was due to the creative fashion in which these documents were brought to life.

One notable case was that of convicted spy, Jason Rezaeian, operating under the guise of a US journalist in Iran.

 “When it came to the case of Jason Rezaeian, we accurately depicted all of the details from the moment of his arrest all the way until the end,” said the screenplay writer Arash Qaderi.

The cast of ‘Gando’ is made up of a talented group of Iranian actors and actresses including Daryoush Farhang, Leila Otadi, Sara Khoueeniha, Aliram Nouraei, Pendar Akbari, Kambiz Dirbaz, Mohammad-Reza Sharifinia, Kamand Amir-Soleymani, Farhad Qaemian, and Payam Dehkordi.

Shot in Iran, China, and Turkey, the series was aired in 30 episodes, with a second season currently in the works.

‘Gando’ refers to a type of crocodile unique to Iran’s southeastern region, known for its patience and tenacity.
